The news coming from the East Coast about the devastating impact of hurricane Sandy is almost shocking. If you’re wondering what you can do to help the victims in their time of need, there are several charitable organizations that need ongoing support as they provide disaster relief and assistance. ABC has recently provided a list of organizations providing support in the area, some of which we have listed here.
The Red Cross. Red Cross workers are currently providing emergency shelter, food, and support services to those who have been affected or displaced by the storm. Consider donating by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make an instant $10 donation, or by visiting www.redcross.org, or calling them directly at 800–RedCross.
The Salvation Army. Salvation Army provides a range of support that serves victims around the world, including sending mobile kitchens that provide hot meals to victims, their families, and support workers there to assist them. The Salvation Army is currently accepting donations through its website www.salvationarmyusa.org.
The New York Blood Center. The approach of hurricane Sandy caused many blood drives to be canceled, and the New York/New Jersey area is now running short of blood and plasma. If you do not live in the area you can donate to the New York blood Center to help them acquire more of this needed supply by visiting their website at www.nybloodcenter.org.
